02Biography

Stephanie Ancetia Barber is an artist whose recent work celebrates the natural environment. Stephanie spent her childhood exploring the “Forgotten Coast” of North Florida, where vast stretches of untamed wilderness fostered an enduring dialogue with the natural world. These formative landscapes continue to inform her practice, serving not simply as subjects but as living archives of memory, ecology, and place.

Working with a bold, expressive palette, Stephanie reimagines the distinctive ecosystems of North Florida—its forests, wetlands, and subtropical ecosystems—as immersive fields of color. Her work invites viewers to explore the remote wilderness as both a physical environment and a spiritual space. In an era of accelerating environmental change, these paintings become meditations on presence, impermanence, and the quiet brilliance of the natural world. Through color, texture, and abstraction, Stephanie celebrates the richness of one of the U.S.'s last truly wild coastal landscapes.

Stephanie earned a Master of Architecture from Florida A&M University, where her studies deepened her understanding of spatial relationships, composition, and the built environment. While her professional background in architecture informs the structural foundation of her work, her practice remains grounded in visual storytelling, balancing formal discipline with intuitive expression. Stephanie's portfolio spans multiple mediums, including acrylic and oil painting, sketching, digital design, and photography.

Her work has been exhibited throughout the southeastern United States and has received national recognition. In 2019, she was selected for the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service (SITES)-affiliated exhibition Crossroads: Change in Rural America in Hopkins, South Carolina, where her work was exhibited alongside acclaimed artist Jonathan Green. In 2026, Stephanie participated in Funkadelic Visions in Tallahassee, Florida, exhibiting with legendary musician and visual artist George Clinton. Through painting, Stephanie seeks to cultivate a deeper awareness of humanity's relationship to the natural world, creating works that celebrate the beauty, resilience, and vulnerability of North Florida's extraordinary landscapes.
